Chicago Nose Job | Could a Non-Surgical Nose Job Be Right For You?

If you’re not satisfied with the shape of your nose, but don’t want to undergo any invasive surgical procedures, there may still be hope for you. As our skill with injectable fillers continues to increase, more people are looking at a “liquid” nose job.

Traditionally, rhinoplasty is a surgery that requires anesthesia and a significant amount of time to heal. The resulting changes to the nose are permanent. A liquid nose job, or non-surgical rhinoplasty uses ice to numb the injection area before using small needles to change the shape of the nose with fillers or Botox. Unlike a surgical procedure, the results are only temporary (lasting anywhere from 9 months – 2 years) which could be a big positive if you end up not liking the results.

Not all people and not all issues can be fixed with this non-surgical option, but if you’re the right candidate, this procedure can be used to cover issues like a crooked nose, or a bump to make the nose appear straighter, more refined and even smaller.

Non surgical rhinoplasty can not be used to slim the width of the base of the nose, narrow the nasal tip or bring the nostrils in. The procedure also can’t bring the top of the nose closer to the face.

While there are risks involved with any procedure, this non-surgical option has limited risks and complications are extremely rare. In fact, it is most likely one of the safest procedures you can have done.

If you’d like to learn more, or want to see if non-surgical rhinoplasty may be an option for you, please contact our office. We look forward to hearing from you!

Facelift Chicago | How Fat Grafting Can Rewind the Clock

Looking for a youthful, natural appearance? Fat grafting can be added to dermal fillers or used on its own to help create a smoother skin. Unlike dermal fillers alone, fat grafting can have a longer lasting effect.

What is Fat Grafting?

As we age, our face loses fat and volume around the eyes, jaws and cheeks. As the face loses volume, wrinkles and lines can become more prominent. Fat grafting gives us the ability to remove excess fat deposits  from other areas of the body and gently place it in the areas where it has depleted with age, subtly restoring your youthful appearance.

How Does it Work?

Once fat is collected, it is purified, and carefully placed. The result is a natural look that typically lasts longer than dermal fillers.  Platelet rich plasma can be included in the injection for a longer lasting result. Recovery from the procedure is minimal and can last up to a week. Cold compresses can alleviate any swelling that occurs.

Is it Right for Me?

Everybody’s skin is unique. If you’re interested in seeing if fat grafting is right for you, contact our office for an appointment.

Facial Aesthetics Chicago | The Surprising Benefits of Botox®

Chicago Facial Cosmetics

Many people might be under the false impression that Botox® only exists to assuage people’s vanity. This could not be further from the truth! There are many benefits to Botox® treatment, especially for patients undergoing oral surgery or who are suffering from Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD). Don’t let misinformation stop you from taking advantage of this cosmetic solution.

What is Botox® and how does it work?

Botox® is a prescription medicine that is injected into your facial muscles. It works by blocking the nerve impulses to the injected sites, reducing the muscle activity. This can help reduce the appearance of aging, but can also have medical benefits. The effects of Botox® are temporary, lasting up to 4 months.

Botox® and TMJ/TMD

TMD refers to issues affecting the Temporomandibular joint, muscles, and soft tissues that connect your jawbone to your skull. Common symptoms of the disorder include jaw pain or stiffness, pain in cheeks or temples, and a clicking sensation when opening and closing your mouth. While TMD is not a life-threatening condition, it can lead to mild to severe inflammation and discomfort if left untreated. Multiple studies have shown the benefits of Botox® in treating TMD. A certified dentist is able to administer it to the affected areas, offering relief to the joint and tissues lessening the pain and discomfort caused by the disorder.

Botox® and Implant Procedures

A majority of patients who receive dental implants are older and have already experienced the effects that aging can have on the face. Patients can sometimes experience difficulty with dental implants as their faces lose their natural fullness. Using Botox® to supplement oral surgery or implant procedures can be an easy and effective way to make the results look more natural and restore the appearance of your face.

If you’re interested in learning more about the aesthetic and medical benefits of Botox® treatment, contact our dental office. Our friendly and experienced team will be happy to walk you through the ideal cosmetic solutions for your particular needs.

Let Your Lips Do the Talking

Do you feel self-conscious about the size or shape of your lips? Each of us are born with a unique appearance, and genetics plays a key role in the formation of your facial features. However, if you are unhappy with your appearance, you can do something about it to achieve your desired features.

What is Cheiloplasty?

Cheiloplasty is lip reduction treatment. The process utilizes healthy tissue from a surrounding area to correct or augment your lips.

Why Should I Have Cheiloplasty?

Cheiloplasty can help reduce the prominence of your lips if you feel they are too large. The procedure can also be utilized to enhance the size and appearance of thin, or small lips. If you have ever looked into the mirror and told yourself your lips are either too small or too large, you may want to consider cheiloplasty treatment.

How Do I Get Started?

During your first visit to our office, Dr. McCullom and our experienced team will evaluate your goals and your desired look. During this time, you will be able to ask any questions regarding Cheiloplasty. Dr. McCullom will assess your facial structure to determine if you are a candidate for cheiloplasty.

What is the Recovery Process Like?

Our team will help prepare you in advance for your recovery following treatment. Minor swelling and pain may occur for a few days. For optimal healing, it is best to avoid strenuous activities and exercise for two to three weeks after your treatments are completed. High-contact sports should be avoided for two months.

Don’t go another day feeling self-conscious about the size or shape of your lips. Our caring team is experienced in providing results through cheiloplasty. Contact us to schedule a consultation, and we will work with you to determine if you are an ideal candidate for cheiloplasty treatment.

The Quick Fix for Wrinkles

As you age, skin begins to lose its elasticity. Over time, it may even stretch or sag in places. This can result in the appearance of wrinkles, which can cause your face to appear older than your actual age. For some, wrinkles can be a source of unhappiness. Dr. McCullom and our team are experienced in reversing the effects of aging and restoring your skin and face to their natural beauty. One of the ways we do this is with medications such as Botox or Xeomin.

What are Botox and Xeomin?

Botox and Xeomin are medications which are used to combat wrinkles. These medications help your facial muscles to relax, reducing the look of wrinkling and preventing further strain and wrinkling from occurring. Botox and Xeomin work by preventing your nerves from contracting your muscles. This softens the look and feel of wrinkles.

What Can It Do for Me?

Botox and Xeomin can be used to reduce wrinkles, but they can also provide treatment for TMJ pain, headaches, and gummy smiles. Typically, treatments are done to the forehead, the area surrounding the eyes, and frown lines.

How Easy are the Treatment?

Most treatments at Dr. McCullom’s office take only 10 minutes to apply. Full effects are typically noticeable after about one week. The results last between four and six months. Repeated treatments allow your muscles to continue to relax, making your face appear smoother.

If you are feeling self-conscious about the appearance of wrinkles on your face, schedule a visit to our office. Dr. McCullom and our friendly team are experienced in helping patients alleviate the visual appearance of wrinkles. Ask about using Botox treatments for TMJ pain, headaches, or gummy smiles. Chicago Facial Aesthetics | Your Mole and Skin Tag Questions Answered

Chicago Facial Aesthetics

Most people have moles and skin tags. The face is a common location for these to develop. For certain people, this can be a source of embarrassment. Our team is trained in removing facial moles and skin tags, but not all moles and skin tags are alike. Here’s what you need to know.

What is a Mole or a Skin Tag?

Moles are a type of skin lesion. Typically, they appear when you are younger. On average, adults have between 10 and 40 moles. They are the result of cells growing together in a clump, rather than spreading throughout the skin.

Skin tags are excess skin tissues that are often found in areas where your skin folds. The neck is a common location.

Are they dangerous?

Usually, moles are harmless. It is however essential to have an evaluation before deciding on a course of action. A small number of moles may contain pre-cancerous cells. Our office is experienced in facial mole removal and will work with you to determine what your individual needs are. If you notice changes in size, shape, or color, please schedule an appointment to see us immediately.

Skin tags are harmless. They can lead to some annoyance or discomfort if they get caught in jewelry or rub against clothing.

Should I Have Them Removed?

The first step in determining whether your moles or skin tags should be removed is an examination at our office. Most people have them removed for cosmetic reasons. Once treatment is completed, you will be able to feel more confident in your appearance and enjoy your clear skin.

Moles and skin tags do not usually present a concern. Treatments at our office are often quick. Most patients’ skin heals completely within one week, though results can vary. Don’t go through each day feeling self-conscious about your moles or skin tags. Contact our office for an examination today.
